Subject: Thin sponge short pips for blocking?

Has anyone had any experience blocking with short pips (or even inverted rubber I guess) in about 1.0mm sponge? I know that 1.5mm is a very ideal sponge thickness for short pip blocking but is 1.0mm too thin?
I know that when blocking with short pips in ox you need more of a long pip technique so is 1.0mm closer to that kind of required technique or is it closer to the 1.5mm and thicker inverted style blocking?
