This makes sense if you believe that the correct decision in Solomon's famous case in the Hebrew Bible (Kings 3:25) would have been to actually chop the poor infant in two and let each woman claiming to be the mother have half. Actually there were three possible decisions and it is true that all would have had detractors. Two of the three -- use only celluloid or use only plastic -- have a reasonable justification (and from my experience, the choice of Nittaku Plastic mitigates a bit the difficulty of the decision, and it's what I might have done but LarryTT makes good case for celluloid). The one decision they actually made is the only one that doesn't make sense, which is to chop the %#@$! baby in half.
BH Man, I actually find a transition to the seamed Chinese polyballs in current form harder than going from celluloid 38 to 40. If these remain approved in their current form, there really will be protests. Like RR said, nobody should use them. We all hope they improve, but it is just that, a hope.
LarryTT, how are you going to help your kids train for this? Bearing in mind of course that nobody will be able to get any reasonable supply of Nittaku Plastic Japan balls until October.

![]() When I read the the USATT chairman's blog I said to myself, "Here's a man in a no-win situation. It doesn't matter what decision is made he'll be wrong." And I was right. If they had gone all-poly, the complaints would have come thick and fast: "We don't have enough time to practise. The balls are crap." If they'd gone all-celluloid, it would have been: "How are we going to compete against the rest of the world using the poly ball if we don't get to use it." And if they went for a balanced approach - poly for those players likely to be affected first by the poly ball and celluloid for those for whom it will make no difference - it's, "That is fricking crazy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Pick one or the other." Meanwhile, back in the real world, nothing changes. I'm just about to head out and play for a couple of hours, trusty bat in hand and a Butterfly *** because that's what most people here use. Sometime in the next decade we'll make the change, but until then it makes no difference. |
