Samsonov will be forced into early retirement, because of the physical requirements of the new ball. But for every oldie you lose, you'll gain 100 noobies. That kid that walks into a club the first time, won't have to train for years to beat that grandpa. It might take him only a week to take him down.

Maybe,  I recently was playing in a club outside the SF metro area and was talking to the club coach's who run the club and they said that they had tried everything to attract kids to the club and learn the game but the current generation had little interest in the sport, many other sport activities for them to play. This is true for several clubs in the SF Bay area the membership is  dominated by older players not Juniors, only Asian dominated local area's had decent number of kids and many dropped out as they become tenangers.

The idea of longer rallies sounds good but giving up the complexity of the game in order to have longer rallies seems pointless and reduces the interest in the game as a sport to learn rather then another quick fun activity that gets boring fast.

Just because you make the game more consistent doesn't mean it's less complex. TT is not complex at the moment. Kill the ball.. and that's it! Even the tabletennisdaily guys said "less winners occurred, placement and consistency was focused on to win the point" Meaning you have to work HARDER.

Look at tennis, less spin, less speed, very complex! Not to forget you have jam packed stadiums, 700,000 spectators(size of a big city) at the US Open Tennis last year! At the US Open TT, what you had 70? Majority of the crowd are players. Even the recent China Open(best players in the world) and the stadium was empty.. Pathetic. You guys need to come out of your small holes, and think big.
