Andrzei Grubba was the best blocker ever. Desmond Douglas and Jacques Secretin were also near unbeatable walls, but Grubba was the best.

Secretin and Grubba were not really blockers, they were more allround, Des Douglas made no 6 in the world using blocking as his main strategy, he played close to the table and sprayed wide angles using his b/hand block. he was like a fish out of water off the table, whilst Secretin and Grubba were two of the best ever lob retrievers, they obviously blocked, everyone had to at times back then, but Grubba was renowned for his b/hand topspin, and Secretin for his Balloon defence, pretty much like Maze today.

As a Grubba's game enthusiast forever, my sincere thanks for straightening this, APW46.
Andrzej's backhand flicks, and retrieves from away from the table, are unforgettable.
Indeed, I'm sure you have seen this clip as a Grubba fan, but for those who have not, here is my little festive treat for you, and for anyone who thought the ITTF trick shot competition winner was good, have a look at the rally beginning 1:50
